Safety

  • Personal Protective Equipment is required for everyone on the build site.

Central Spirit will provide: hard hats, safety glasses, and gloves

      • Must have one person that is safety certified at build at all times

    • Orange hards, anyone can wear

    • Must have closed toed shows when at the build site

    • Safety glasses must be on when using a saw or any power tools

    • Only 3 people per scaffolding level at one time

    • Scaffolding must be leveled before climbing on it

    • Moving scaffolding

      1. Fully deconstruct scaffolding

      2. Move the scaffolding

      3. Relevel scaffolding

      4. Reconstruct scaffolding

    • All pieces must be in place to be on scaffolding

      1. This includes cross bars, straight bars, pins, and the floorboard-locked planks

      2. Each level must be fully planked

      3. Ladders must be aligned

    • All tents must have the fire safety label on the inside of the tent

      • The same goes for any side of the tent

    • All poles and braces must be in good to new condition

      • No cracked or broken poles

    • Every connection point must have a nut & bolt in it

    • The tent canopy must be fully attached to the frame of the tent

    • All tents will be professionally staked

    • Must be approved by the fire marshal, facillities, and any other necessary personel

    • All tents must follow Clemson Temporay Structure Guidelines

The major things that fail tents

    1. Not having a nut and bold in every connection point

    2. Not having a fire sticker sewn on the tent

    3. Broken poles

    1. Light Rain:

      • Can still be on scaffolding

      • Until it is deemed unsafe or slippery

        1. Happens pretty quick

      • Dry scaffolding down if it is wet before being able to climb back up

    2. Moderate Rain:

      • Have tarps from the top of the telephone poles and angle it so that people can work underneath it.

      • Attach a string to the tarps and then pull it down so it can cover floats more easily.

      • Tarps can not touch or be tied to scaffolding.

        1. Must be in between the scaffolding and float or draped over scaffolding with the top layer of scaffolding missing/ not constructed .

      • They must be tied down to something that is at least 5 ft from the tent

      • There needs to be a large walk space and opening on either side of the tarps

        1. So that people can not get trapped under there

      • Lights underneath can NOT be near or touch the traps they get very hot

    3. Lightning:

      • The field must be cleared. All work can resume when the all clear sign comes from facilites and the Homecoming Director

      • Off site pomping can be offered at the discretion of the Homecoming Director

    4. Heavy winds or Hurricane:

      • The timeline will most likely get sped up

        1. Build right up to when the judges come out

        2. Start removing unnecessary items first, then tents, then scaffolding.

      • It is unsafe to be on scaffolding or have tents out there with 40-50 mph winds
